Background:

Stewart reports that the 197th Infantry Battalion was known as the "Vikings of Canada".  Organized in 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba it had only a strength of 306 when it was absorbed by the 11th Reserve Battalion to provide reinforcements in the field, as also confirmed by Love.  Meek added only the dates of service as noted above.

The 11th Reserve Battalion is reported by Love as having trained the 197th.  From there the 11th Reserve sent reinforcements to the 16th, 27th and 43rd Battalions in France.

As the unit did not serve in France as a unit, there is no mention in Nicholson nor Livesay.
