Background:
| The 248th Infantry Battalion
was recruited in the County of Grey, Ontario by GO 48 on May 1,
1917. The mobilization Headquarters were in Owen Sound,
Ontario.
The unit motto was "De Bon Vouloir De
Servir Le Roi", which translated is "Of Good Courage
to Serve the King".
The unit did not see action directly, as
it was absorbed to provide reinforcements for the Canadian Corps
in the field. It was absorbed by the 7th and 8th Reserve
Battalions. The 7th Reserve Battalion was absorbed by the
6th Reserve Battalion. As such, men of the 248th would
have most likely gone to the 2nd, 21st, 38th, 54th, 58th, 102nd,
116th or the PPCLI in France.
The Regimental Numbers would be 1066001 to
1069000. |
