Background:

Stewart reports that the 227th Battalion provided reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field. Love reports it was absorbed by the 8th Reserve Battalion, which is also confirmed by Meek. Meek also reports the unit recruited from the Island of Manitoulin and Algoma, Ontario. 

Note that Stewart does not report that the 27th was absorbed by the 8th Reserve Battalion, as noted below.  As such, this page should perhaps be filed under the "Absorbed by Reserve Battalions" folder rather than this "Reinforcement Folder".

Nicholson does not report on the 227th Infantry Battalion.

Authority for formation, P.C.O.s 2067/2068 dated August 6, 1914 published in G.O. 69 dated July 15, 1916. 
Recruited in districts of Sudbury, Algoma and Island of Manitoulin 
Mobilized HQ at Algoma until mobilized at Camp Borden August 15, 1916. 
Disbanded by P.C.O. 3187 dated April 11, 1918 published in G.O. 82 dated June 1, 1918. 
Perpetuated by the 2nd Reserve Battalion, The Sault Ste Marie Regiment, then the The Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury Regiment (M.G.), not currently perpetuated.
