CEF SOLDIER
As a companion page to the definitions and acronyms, we have prepared
a page to illustrate and identify the various parts of the Soldier's
"Kit" (King's Issue Temporary) from the Great War, particularly as it relates
to the CEF soldier. We encourage others to add to the information
provided here and submit photos with components of the kit identified.

There
is a detailed summary of the uniforms of the Canadian
Expeditionary Force in the booklet "Khaki" by
Clive M. Law. You can order this document from:
Service Publications
P.O. Box 33071
Ottawa ON Canada K2C 3Y9
or you can find the details at
their web site:
http://www.servicepub.com
The publication contains a number
of excellent photographs and detailed lists for such
items as:
 | Service Dress (tunics,
buttons, badges, etc.) |
 | Headdress (Glengarry,
Dress Caps, Trench Caps, etc.) |
 | Highland Dress |
|
The complete "Instructions
Governing the Organization and Administration of the CEF (1916)"
provided by Ken MacLean has a full list in Appendix VI. We
have extracted that page and include it here as well:

Here is the list from David Love's text (page 212) as a guide
to what components we have to identify on one or more of these
soldiers: (click list for full page)
