Michael Thierens
(Grandson Michael
The Netherlands)
has undertaken to search the on-line War Diaries of Library
and Archives Canada (Ottawa,
Ontario) using a
unique extraction program written by Marc
Leroux. This is in addition to the mass project to
transcribe a number of the battalion war diaries that is being
undertaken by the CEFSG War Diary Users Group (see
this posting).
As work progresses on the
Matrix, we will move many of these war diary references to
their appropriate place under the Army Corps or Army Troops.
In the interim, you will find what is needed in the links
shown in the navigation bar at the top of this page.
UPDATE
NOVEMBER 27, 2009:
Michael
Thierens has sent in the 85th Battalion of the 12th
Brigade, 4th Canadian Infantry Division as
transcribed by Ed Tainton. This is for all years
1917-1919 and has not been separated to individual
years. That can be done at the request of the
authors.
UPDATE
MAY 19, 2009:
Al
Lloyd sent in a CD with the War Diary for the 21st
Battalion and I have now loaded that to the
Matrix. To match the rest of the files, I have
combined Al's monthly war diaries into annual war
diaries. If you have links bookmarked to any of
the war diary files, those have now changed, as I
have moved each to a separate sub-directory.
UPDATE
JANUARY 7, 2009:
We
have received the 78th Battalion "Winnipeg
Grenadiers" from Grandson Michael. It
appears the transcription was completed by Ed
Tainton, with review by Michael Thierens and Lynn
Lane.
UPDATE
NOVEMBER 11, 2008:
Grandson
Michael has submitted the FINAL war diary transcriptions for
the 7th
Infantry Brigade Headquarters as well as the Princess
Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. These have been added to
the above table. A great advancement in the process –
well done!
UPDATE
SEPTEMBER 7, 2008:
Grandson
Michael has prepared an update list of the war diary
transcriptions that are in progress. That was posted
this date to the CEFSG Forum.
UPDATE
FEBRUARY 12, 2007:
We have received our first War Diary
transcription and these have now been posted to the
Matrix. As more are submitted, they will be posted
here as well. All of them are in the "Transcribed
Directory".
UPDATE
AUGUST 24, 2006:
(see
CEFSG post)
Marc
and Michael have finished their project to move the Library
and Archives Canada War Diaries to an indexed based web
format. This has now been published in it's entirety on
the Canadian
Great War Project
web site. Our hats are off to Marc and Michael for
undertaking this great project.
